There are various types of pond liners available in the market each having its own characteristics. Pond liners are actually very low on the pocket if they are maintained with proper care. Pond liner repair is an easy job when you have mastered how to repair a pond liner. The most famous types of pond liners are the flexible pond liners and the rigid pond liners. The flexible pond liners are made up of strong and flexible materials like plastic that can last for almost 20 to 25 years. These pond liners come with special UV protection that increases their durability. Still, there comes time when one or the other smallest task of pond liner repairs comes in the way.
There are a few things to keep in mind for pond liner repair. The most common type of pond liner material is made from EPDM rubber.
Investigating pond leaks is a simple step-by-step procedure if approached systematically. Most pond leaks are found in the initial investigations. Easy to find leaks that take very little time to investigate and we covered a large number of potential leak locations. Time is money, as they say, and we want to be as efficient as possible in finding leaks for our clients. Now, we are going to cover more advanced investigations of leaks in flexible lined ponds. Most of these less obvious sources of leaks take more time to find than the easy ones, the majority of which you will have already eliminated by now.
If you can see the leak, you have an easy job. Assuming your liner is rubber or EPDM and most are, you can patch it just like a tire. You can buy a patch online and while you are at it, buy a roll of patching material, because whatever caused that liner to leak will most likely do it again.
Liquid Rubber Fix pond leaks. Waterproofing Fish Pond, Leaks Repair, pond liners, Fountains, & Reflecting Pools with Liquid EPDM Rubber Concrete which has not been modified with special additives must be protected by impervious coatings when used for containing water. Unprotected concrete will absorb water which can then leach out soluble constituents and cause spalling when frozen. The combination of outdoor exposure plus water immersion creates a demanding environment for a coating. It must have high resistance to water penetration, be flexible enough to withstand extremes in temperature, and not be affected by ultra violet radiation from the sun. Liquid EPDM rubber coatings possess all this characteristics and are also non toxic to fish.
Preparation: Drain water and clean surface dirt while concrete is still wet. High pressure water spray and/or scouring surface with a wire brush may be necessary in fish ponds. If algae is present treat with an algaecide or 25% solution of bleach, let stand for one hour and rise well. Allow one week (rain free) for concrete to dry out.
The primary function of any pond is to hold water. V Lowering the pond level an inch or two below the stable water level will allow some additional space for inspection. Careful inspection is in order for all pond leaks. Concrete ponds in freezing climates may have been subject to freeze damage or settling if not on a firm foundation.
The key issue for many ponds is finding the exact leaking area. Children playing in the pond or well-meaning landscaping near the pond may result in leakage as well.
If the details of construction are known, the inspection can focus on finding the leak. Isolating the systems is the key to finding the leak point. If the leak appears when the pump is running, then turn off the pump to see if the containment leaks at all. Even very small cracks or holes can leak substantial amounts of water. If the basic containment is intact, the next step is to isolate any other system components to check for leaks. Edge leaks will generally leave evidence as wet spots along the edge. Dry days are the best for checking pond integrity.
By building a pond with a variety of "inspection points" around the edges, it can be very simple to check pond edges for adequate liner height. - Fold some liner under the edges to have some additional liner available if settling occurs or the owner desires some small modifications. Also check for liner folds that may allow for channeling of the water. Any waterfall or stream should have a liner that overlaps the basic water containment.
Leaks are an eventuality waiting to happen in and around a pond/fish pond. Identifying fish ponds leaks and repairing them can be a thankless task, especially if there is no leak to be found, so first you need to find out the leak. Are you having difficulty finding that leak? Water levels keep dropping? With a 25 year history of success our fish pond liners.
